Accelerated Reader Program (AR)

This is a computer based program that helps teachers and children monitor their independent reading practice. At the beginning of the school year, we will be doing STAR Assessment, which will help provide information concerning your students reading level.  You and the students will be updated with this information about each students reading level. Once your student knows his/her reading level they will need to choose books at the appropriate level. To find AR levels of books outside of the classroom you can go to www.arbookfind.com.

As the children pick books at his/her own reading level, upon completion of the book, the students can take a short quiz on the computer to see if the student comprehended what was read. These AR quiz's are only taken on campus during computer lab time or sometimes during class time. Students are encouraged to be reading at least 15 minutes each day outside of the classroom time.  AR gives both the teacher and student quiz results, which can help reveal and set new target goals for ongoing reading practice.

We will be attending the computer lab twice a week, allowing the students to take these tests and monitor how they are improving.

This program helps encourage and motivate children at their own individual level.
