  • Reading/Phonics where we will look at a way to understand letters and the sounds they make and why

  • Math working on addition, subtraction, and times tables

  • Writing practicing manuscript at the beginning of the year and Cursive the last half of the year

  • Bible studying the historical heroes from Old Testament to New Testament and seeing God's plan for them and us too!

  • History we will develop a love and appreciation for our country  and American history starting with the colonist and moving on to the pilgrims.

  • Science will center on life science, physical science, earth and space science and the human body.

We will work on becoming responsible young students that should always do our best in anything we do. Let's commit to do our best together!

Bible

Our Bible curriculum is called Purposeful Design. Like the author of this series, it is my desire to see that students find knowledge, wisdom, and understanding for themselves from the Word of God. An important goal is that each child learns that the Bible can teach us how to live.

Reading

We use the Houghton Mifflin Reading and it covers the required standards established by the State of California. The focus will be on phonics, vocabulary, comprehension skills, writing, and language.

Spelling

We have a spelling test every Friday. The lesson will include twenty words related to the phonics lesson and 5 challenge words taken from reading, history or science lessons.

Math

The math curriculum this year is also called Purposeful Design. It is designed to help students master appropriate math content and skills within the framework of a Biblical worldview.

Handwriting

The first semester of second grade we will review and perfect our manuscript writing. Cursive will be introduced and taught at the beginning of the second semester.

History

We want to instill within each child a love for history and a desire to be loyal to this country. We will develop a patriotic appreciation, which will grow as we see how God guides us in the building of a country.

Science

We want to explore the wonders this earth from a Christian perspective. Purpose Design centers around four topics: Life Science, Physical Science, Earth and Space Science, and the human body.
